BACHELOR OF ARTS IN ENGLISH  Assessment on Going for Level I-AACCUP, Inc.

While Filipino is fact and assuredly becoming our accepted national language, English continues to be a vital part of our lives. English has become more important today as it is de facto the universal language of diplomacy, commerce and technology in our ever-shirinking “global village” (Palma 1994).

We Filipinos have been fortunate in having English as a major part of our curriculum with the concomitant benefits of instruction in this medium in our schools. But having English as a curricular subject is one thing; making it bring the desired results is another.

The proposed program has the following insight for clients: 1) accustom the student to intellectual work of high order within a narrow branch of scholarship and 2) prepare the student in the specialized activities of the practice of a profession such as: a) College Professor in English b) Tutor in English c) Secretary to any managers of an institution d) Newscaster/ journalist/ reporter e) court interpreter f) Clerk to any job related to his field in English.

With this view, proposal to offer Bachelor of Arts in English at Boac Campus was conceived by former SAS Dean Alicia M. Maalindog and a faculty member Mrs. Rosalinda M. Nuñez. The school was hopeful that this proposed four-year curricular offering once realized would make its own contribution in the development of future responsible citizens and leaders who will help move the country in its quest for national unity and prosperity as well as respect and recognition in the world community.

The course offering of Bachelor of Arts in English was realized in the SY. 2006-2007 when the proposal had been presented and approved during the Academic Council meeting on November 11, 2005 with MSC ACO Resolution No. 30, s. 2005. After having complied with the requirements and suggestions from the Commission on Higher Education Office, the Board of Trustees had its approval for implementation with BOT Resolution No. 68, s. 2005 on December 7, 2005.

This four-year degree course in language communication develops the students the degree of competence in his/her chosen field of specialization necessary for immediate gainful employment, as foundation for further training beyond the baccalaureate degree.
